Story of my first online workshop
The story doesn't begin with the emergence of the idea; rather, it reaches back further in time. It was a typical summer day, sunlight pouring into the room as I sat engrossed in my startup tasks. Out of the blue, a notification chimed from my FSN campus club chat group. The exact topic of the conversation now escapes me, but the essence remains: by the conversation's end, I had proposed the notion of online workshops. To my surprise, the club president's response wasn't what I had anticipated. Instead of organizing these workshops for us, he threw down the challenge for us to create them ourselves. And so, I seized the mantle, stepping forward as the inaugural presenter. That marked the genesis of my first-ever workshop. Only a trio of individuals attended, yet an immense sense of pride welled up within me. And so, this is where it all commenced.
As a few weeks danced by, another prospect beckoned, this time courtesy of new recruits to our startup. With the aim of ensuring a comprehensive grasp of our startup's essence, I orchestrated a concise workshop on perfecting the elevator pitch. My focus was on fostering interaction to shatter any initial barriers. A mere five participants turned up, but this modest turnout signaled triumph in my eyes. After all, among the attendees were unfamiliar faces, and this occurrence substantially boosted my self-assurance.
Fast forward to August 18, 2023—on this date, I resolved to embark on a workshop endeavor after several days of contemplation. The first step was identifying an apt topic. Here, my trusty companion ChatGPT, akin to a cherished confidant, entered the picture. The torrent of ideas it generated held merit, yet one stood out: networking. Unlike the overexplored terrain of time management, networking held a distinct allure and promise for my target audience.
The subsequent phase, step two, involved crafting the presentation. Hours of research culminated in the birth of my meticulously designed content. (For a more intricate dive into this process, don't hesitate to request details in the comments.) The journey pressed on to step three—spreading the word about the workshop. This step, though exciting, roused trepidation within me. August 20 approached, the day I needed to unveil the announcement. Fears of judgment and ridicule crept in. Then, I invoked one of my life principles: "Do it now, cry later." A recollection emerged—friends who had embarked on similar paths and successfully navigated them. With this memory as my anchor, I steeled myself and released the announcement into the digital ether.
The aftermath was nothing short of astonishing. The reactions from my friends diverged markedly from my expectations. While I braced for jests and taunts, the reality was a cascade of support and encouragement. They exhibited genuine interest in my upcoming workshop presentation. Although their backing warmed my heart, it simultaneously elevated the pressure I felt—a heightened need to meet and exceed their anticipations.
In the days leading up to the 24th, the day of the presentation, an unexpected hurdle emerged—I fell ill. This twist of fate constrained my productivity, rendering me unable to make significant strides. Nevertheless, I harnessed the power of my friends' wisdom, seeking their advice to navigate this challenge. In the pockets of time between bouts of illness, I meticulously fine-tuned the content and design, injecting small but meaningful improvements.
